Choosing the right irrigation system: the key to success in almond cultivation

Once the almond harvest is complete, it is the ideal time to plan for the next season and look at ways to optimise key aspects. In a context where water is an increasingly scarce resource, choosing the right irrigation system is a crucial decision that directly affects the profitability of the crops.

Almond trees require uniform and constant irrigation in the root zone of each tree. If irrigation is not managed properly, this can affect both the quantity and quality of the crop.

That is why, when choosing an irrigation system, we must ensure that it meets several basic requirements: how it distributes water, that it is adaptable to different types of terrain, that it is durable, and that it minimises problems such as blocked drippers.

At Caudal, we offer solutions specifically designed to meet the needs of almond trees, such as our PC600 AS pipe. This cylindrical dripper is self-compensating, which means it always guarantees the same water flow rate, even when the pressure varies.

It also features an anti-suction system that prevents water from entering from the outside, thus preventing the outlet holes from becoming blocked. Another important feature is that it has two opposite holes, which means that if one becomes blocked, the water can continue to flow without any problems.

We stock this pipe in 16 mm diameters with flow rates of 2.0 and 4.0 litres per hour, and we also offer a 20 mm version without an anti-suction feature, with flow rates of 1.6, 2 and 4 litres per hour. The larger diameter reduces pressure losses and allows for longer runs compared to the 16 mm pipe. Thanks to its robust design and thick walls, the pipe is extremely durable, withstanding pressures of up to 4 bar, making it a long-term investment.

Opting for solutions such as our PC600 AS pipework therefore ensures more efficient and sustainable water management.
