As a socially responsible company, at CAUDAL we are committed to the environment, renewable energy and the promotion of energy saving and efficiency as part of a process of continuous improvement.

With the aim of making progress in assessing and improving the energy efficiency of businesses, particularly SMEs, and with the support provided by the European Union through the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) 2014–2020 for the Region of Murcia, a number of measures have been implemented at our main premises aimed at reducing energy consumption, improving efficiency and, consequently, reducing CO₂ emissions.

The energy audit carried out by ACL Ingeniería resulted in a comprehensive and detailed final report, which set out various energy-saving measures (ESMs). Some of these proposed measures have been subsidised under ERDF funds; specifically, five different initiatives, which are:

  • The installation of a new air-conditioning system, resulting in annual energy savings of 3.13 toe/year and a reduction in atmospheric emissions of 12.03 tCO₂/year. The total investment amounts to €58,369.37, with a total grant of €6,260.
  • Replacement of conventional light fittings with new, energy-efficient LED light fittings; this measure contributes to annual energy savings of 9.75 toe/year and a reduction in atmospheric emissions of 37.45 tCO₂/year. The total investment amounted to €8,635.84, with a total approved and granted subsidy of €4,317.92.
  • Another measure implemented is the installation of a new adiabatic system to replace a conventional industrial chiller; this results in annual energy savings of 25.16 toe/year and a reduction in atmospheric emissions of 96.6 tCO₂/year. The investment amounts to €48,398, with a total grant awarded of €21,776.10.
  • As a fourth energy-efficiency measure, variable-speed drives have been installed on various hydraulic drive units. This measure results in annual energy savings of 9.49 toe/year and a reduction in atmospheric emissions of 36.45 tCO₂/year. The investment amounted to €8,899.32, with a total grant of €3,559.72.
  • Finally, an improvement has been implemented in the cooling process for the water used as a coolant at various stages of our product’s manufacture, through the installation of an innovative water-to-water heat exchanger system-water system, which results in lower energy consumption by the installed cooling systems and, consequently, annual energy savings of 55.86 toe/year and a reduction in atmospheric emissions of 214.51 tCO₂/year. The total investment made amounts to €17,655, with a total grant awarded of €5,928.

All the energy efficiency measures mentioned have been co-financed by the ERDF, which has contributed 80 per cent of the total grant amount.

Through this and other projects, Caudal demonstrates its commitment to the environment and its dedication to sustainable development.
