With a view to furthering our social commitment, at CAUDAL we are committed to the environment, renewable energy and the promotion of energy saving and efficiency as part of a process of continuous improvement.

A shared goal – to make progress in assessing and improving the energy efficiency of businesses, particularly SMEs – and, together with the support provided by the European Union through the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) operational programme 2014–2020 for the Region of Murcia, a number of measures aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving energy efficiency will be implemented at our main site (factory), thereby achieving a reduction in CO₂ emissions and an improvement in our carbon footprint.

An energy audit carried out by ACL Ingeniería resulted in a final report setting out various energy-saving measures (ESMs). Some of the measures proposed have been subsidised under these ERDF funds, specifically two initiatives:

  • The installation of evaporative panels on existing air-cooled air coolers to improve the equipment’s coefficient of performance (COP), results in an annual energy saving of 6.57 toe/year and a reduction in atmospheric emissions of 25.23 tCO₂/year. The eligible investment amounts to €16,200, with a total grant awarded of €4,050.
  • Replacement of several of the old motors used in the vacuum lines with new, more energy-efficient motors (IE4, permanent magnet), together with a redesign of the vacuum system that supplies the various production lines, with the aim of improving plant operations and reducing energy consumption, this results in annual energy savings of 3.92 toe/year and an annual reduction in GHG emissions of 15.07 tCO₂/year. The eligible investment amounts to €11,150, with a total grant awarded of €3,902.50.

All the energy efficiency measures listed have been co-financed by the ERDF, which has contributed 80 per cent of the total grant amount.
